Warrior Way – 20 Year Anniversary!!!

On October 13th, Warrior Way will celebrate it’s 20th anniversary! Warrior Way Martial Arts Alliance opened its doors in 1997 in Walled Lake, Michigan. Co-founded by three friends and training partners, Harvy Berman, Scott Lewis, and Bill Thompson, Warrior Way would grow to become the best Martial Arts academy in the state of Michigan.

Warrior Way has a large kids program taught by instructors with backgrounds in education. The practice of Martial Arts is a routine that improves focus and self-discipline, developing the mind as well as the body. These benefits often carry over into school, helping to not only improve behavior, but academic performance. Experts agree that, rather than promoting violence, Martial Arts open the door to building a solid foundation of self-confidence and a healthy sense of self-worth. The core philosophy of Warrior Way’s Kids training is non-violent discipline. When faced with a aggressive situation, our students are trained to respond in a calm and controlled way that will stop, rather than escalate, violence.

Warrior Way has the distinction of having the longest running Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program in the state and is the head of the Caique Jiu Jitsu organization in the midwest. Almost every school and instructor in Michigan can trace their training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu back to Warrior Way. Third-Degree Black Belt Professor Harvy Berman has worked tirelessly to help grow the sport in Michigan. With over 20 years of experience, Professor Harvy can trace his lineage back to the Gracie Family, who developed the art in Brazil almost 90 years ago. Warrior Way has a full staff of accomplished Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belts who teach the classes.

In 2003, Warrior Way added the skills of World Champion Muay Thai Kickboxer Matee Jedeepitak to its already impressive staff of instructors. During his time as a professional fighter, Matee held two of the most prestigious titles in his homeland of Thailand, the Lumpinee and World Muay Thai Council championships. During his time in the United States, Matee also added the I.K.F. Pro San Shou Welterweight World Championship to his collection. With over 200 professional fights, there is no one in the midwest that has achieved what Matee has inside the rings of Thailand. As an instructor, Matee uses his lifelong experience to help students perfect the traditional style of Muay Thai Kickboxing at Warrior Way and across the country in his seminars.

As a way of honoring those who protect us, Warrior Way also works closely with the local law enforcement to help keep those in uniform safe while on duty. Warrior Way’s objective is to help people better their lives through building self-confidence, discipline, and physical fitness that training in the Martial Arts can provide. Based on realistic self-defense scenarios, the systems Warrior Way teach provide you with the best form of self-defense anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can learn. Though the school has produced world champions in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, as well as amateur and professional MMA; Warrior Way’s number one priority is teaching the basics in a structured and safe environment.

King of the Cage

King of the Cage on August 5th, 2017 was a historic night for Warrior Way. We got to see Nicholas Shammami and Anthony Wong make their MMA Debuts. After having tried to match up with opponents in the last two events these gentleman stepped up against more experienced opponents to ensure they would be able to test themselves in the cage. Nicholas showed the heart of a lion after a very tough first round. He was able to keep his composure and made his opponent work hard through all three rounds, losing a decision. Anthony had a war and came up just a little short losing his fight by a split decision after three rounds. Next up Avan Bashi returned to the cage for his 3rd MMA fight. Avan showed great skill and determination against a much more experienced opponent and was able to get a TKO/Ref stoppage in the first round after a series of unanswered strikes. The night was capped off with Professor Angelo Aimee Popofski taking his last fight in the cage. Angelo has had a tremendous career spanning 18 years and 26 fights. He came up short after an exchange of strikes and was stopped short of the first round. A special thanks to Angelo for letting us be part of his journey and passing his knowledge on to the next generation!
